When the March sisters’ father leaves to fight in the Civil War, the four girls are left to fend for themselves. At the center of the tale is Jo, and aspiring writer, who provides the narrative backdrop to the story.  Spanning several years, the March sisters’ each grow up a little differently, from the independent Jo, to the conventional romantic Meg, innocent Beth, and the sharp-witted Amy. As the family copes with changes and is beset by tragedy, they must learn to come together in troubling times.
