Heartland Film Announces New Board Members

Chairman of the Board Stan Soderstrom names new board members Michèle Boukai, John Dewey and Steve Bellamy

Nonprofit arts organization Heartland Film, Inc. has appointed three new board members under Chairman Stan Soderstrom. Chairman since June 2017, Soderstrom has been an active Heartland Film board member since 2011.

“Having served on the Heartland Film Board of Directors for 6 years, I am extremely honored to serve as chairman at this time,” said Soderstrom. “We have experienced impressive growth and milestones over the past few years, and I greatly look forward to the challenge of continuing this momentum and leading the organization through its second quarter century. I want to officially welcome Michèle Boukai, John Dewey and Steve Bellamy to our talented and well-rounded board of directors.”

Stan Soderstrom is the executive director for Kiwanis International, a worldwide service organization in more than 80 nations, and the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. His background includes global and community-based work in the public and private sectors. A native of Amarillo, Texas, Stan earned his undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University with graduate studies at the University of Texas. In 1997, Soderstrom joined the staff of Kiwanis International. He has held several positions within the organization and is also an active club member, giving him a unique, guiding perspective.

Heartland Film also named three new board members, including:

  • Michele BoukaiMichèle Boukai: Michèle Boukai is the Israel and Overseas Director at the Jewish Federation of Indianapolis. She holds a BA (Industrial Psychology) and MA (Sociology/Market Research) from Queens College, NY. She has been with the Jewish Federation of Indianapolis since 2000. As Israel and Overseas Director, Michèle is responsible for the Israeli Shaliach (Emissary) program and the connection to the Western Galilee through the Israel Partnership2Gether program. She also organizes overseas travel for the Federation and is available to help individuals plan their trips to Israel.


  • John DeweyJohn Dewey: John Dewey is a financial advisor at Edward Jones. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Doane College and a Masters of Business Administration from Bellarmine College. As a financial advisor, Dewey develops strategies to help clients achieve their financial goals whether it is planning for retirement, or just protecting the future of their loved ones. An avid supporter of independent film, Edward Jones was honored with 2017 Heartland International Film Festival Sponsor of the Year.


  • Steve BellamySteve Bellamy: Steve Bellamy is the President of Motion Picture and Entertainment at Eastman Kodak Company. A serial entrepreneur and award-winning media creator, Bellamy founded The Tennis Channel, The Ski Channel, The Surf Channel and The Skate Channel television networks and is truly a creative executive.  A lover of film and music, he is a prolific creator in both mediums.  As a writer/director, his movies have won over 40 global film festivals, from Amsterdam to Canada to Mexico and the United States. He has personally won 6 Best Director Awards including the Las Vegas International Film Festival. In all, he has shepherded over 10,000 hours of content creation. As a songwriter and recording artist, Bellamy has toured the country, had singles on commercial radio and his work is regularly found on film and television. Before joining Kodak, Bellamy spent 6 years as CEO of Action Sport Networks and remains the Chairman of that business.

Soderstrom and the board of directors will guide Heartland Film as it plans for the 27th annual Heartland International Film Festival (Oct. 11-21, 2018), Cultural Journey: Mexico (Apr. 19-22, 2018), Indy Shorts International Film Festival (July 26-29, 2018), and other programming initiatives, including the Heartland Film Roadshow, Heartland Film Institute and Truly Moving Picture Award.
