Gus Lobel (Clint Eastwood) has been one of the best scouts in baseball for decades, but, despite his efforts to hide it, age is starting to catch up with him. Nevertheless, Gus—who can tell a pitch just by the crack of the bat—refuses to be benched for what could be the final innings of his career.
This enjoyable tale about baseball and family warmed over our jury thanks in part from the great acting from Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. Their relationship of a father and daughter trying to reconnect after years of not understanding each other was the most effective portion of the movie for our jury. There was also a lot of interest in the changing nature of baseball where computers are replacing the jobs of talented baseball scouts.
