Heartland Film Festival Summer Rewind – June 26-28, 2014
Heartland Film Festival Summer Rewind showcases some of the best Heartland Film Festival movies of the past in an abbreviated, three-day mini-festival format, giving moviegoers an opportunity to see an enlightening slate of independent films and to meet the filmmakers who crafted them. Today we interview one of the attending filmmakers, Director/Writer/Actor Marc Menchaca. His film, This Is Where We Live, was a Festival Award Winner at the 2013 Heartland Film Festival.
Marc Menchaca is an actor and filmmaker whose previous TV credits include Homeland, Law & Order: CI & SVU, Generation Kill, Treme, Inside Amy Schumer, and the upcoming HBO comedy Togetherness. He is the male lead of a film on the 2014 festival circuit called She’s Lost Control. Heartland Film Interview
Heartland Film: You weren’t able to attend last year’s Heartland Film Festival when This Is Where We Live was being shown as a Festival Award Winner, so we’re extra excited to have you here at Summer Rewind. What have you heard about the Festival from Ben Fuqua, and what are you looking forward to the most?
Marc Menchaca: Ben told me Heartland was a great community of supporters of independent film, people who love a message. I’m really looking forward to meeting the folks in Indianapolis. I was just there a little over a month ago and loved the city. I think the best thing about film festivals are the people you meet along the way from different parts of the country so I’m really looking forward to meeting the staff and volunteers and the people coming out to watch the film.
Heartland Film: Give us an update on This Is Where We Live since it was shown at Heartland last October. Any big news?
Marc Menchaca: Since Heartland, we had a run in New York and are currently showing at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas! Unexpected but in a good way. It’s great to see the film having a life outside of festivals.
Heartland Film: Heartland Film Festival moviegoers love filmmaker Q&As. Let’s say a Summer Rewind attendee wants to earn some brownie points—what is a question that you’d love to answer, but haven’t yet been asked?
Marc Menchaca: Hmmm, a question I haven’t been asked…maybe a question about the relationships between Bob, August and Lainey and how that fits in relation to Diane.
