Social Media/PR Intern - Open for Fall 2017

1 Fall Internship Position Available

Reports to: Marketing Manager / Director of Film Programming & Marketing

Description: The Social Media & PR Intern is responsible for assisting the Marketing Team with promoting the Heartland Film brand across multiple platforms. This position will primarily assist the Marketing Manager with managing Heartland Film’s social media accounts, blogging, writing/editing press releases, coordinating media credentials and implementing various marketing strategies.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Fall internship: Early August- Early November | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in marketing, communications, media studies, film, nonprofit management or related field
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and copy writing/editing ability
  • Desire to learn more about marketing, social media management, public relations and what it takes to put on a film festival
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is desirable, but not required
  • Experience with social media management for a nonprofit, business or organization is desirable, but not required


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Marketing Manager with social media content creation and scheduling for Heartland Film’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts
  • Research and implement current social media trends and best practices for Heartland Film’s social media accounts
  • Assist the Marketing Team with copy editing for the 2017 Heartland Film Festival guide book
  • Write and publish compelling posts on the Heartland Film blog
  • Assist the Marketing Manager with red carpet events, media contacts and community outreach initiatives like the $2Back Ticket Program
  • Assist the Marketing Manager with writing/editing copy for the Heartland Film email newsletter (monthly throughout the year, daily during the 11-day Festival)
  • Oversee the Marketing Street Team (a reliable network of Heartland Film volunteers) in the distribution of flyers, marketing materials and social media promotions

Multimedia Design Intern - Open for Fall 2017

1 Fall Internship Position Available

Reports to: Marketing Manager / Director of Film Programming & Marketing

Description: The Multimedia Design Intern is responsible for assisting the Marketing Team with promoting the Heartland Film brand using design, videography and photography. This position will primarily assist the Marketing Manager with creating content for Heartland Film’s social media accounts, designing flyers/collateral/slides for events, and creating video/photo content to promote the Heartland Film brand.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Fall internship: Early August- Early November | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in design, video production, visual arts, new media studies, communications or related field
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Adobe Bridge)
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Desire to learn more about marketing, design, nonprofits and what it takes to put on a film festival
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to (August-November Fall Internship):

  • Assist the Marketing Manager with the creation of pre-show slides for the Heartland Film Festival and other Roadshow events
  • Assist the Marketing Manager with Heartland Film Festival signage creation, badge credentials and image formatting for the guide book
  • Create compelling content and graphics for Heartland Film’s social media accounts
  • Create interesting and high-quality video content for Heartland Film’s website and YouTube channel
  • Take photos, shoot b-roll video and conduct video interviews during the Festival that promote the Heartland Film brand and the Festival experience

Development Intern - Open for Fall/Winter 2017

1 Fall/Winter Internship Position Available

Reports to: Development Manager / VP of Development

Description: The Development Intern is responsible for assisting the Development Team with coordinating special events, donation mailings, data entry, sponsorship contracts and community outreach initiatives. During the Festival, this position will assist the Development Team with Premiere Pavilion special events, VIP/sponsor/private parties, Silver Screen Society members, and the coordination of Heartland Film staff meals.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Summer internship: Early May – Early August | 12-20 hours/week
  • Fall/Winter internship: Early August- Late December| 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in nonprofit management, event planning, business or related field
  • Desire to learn more about sponsorship, special events and the film festival atmosphere
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and friendly customer service
  • Quick on your feet with effective problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car during the Festival
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive; ability to learn new software
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite desireable, but not required
  • Prior event planning, development and/or nonprofit experience desirable


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to (August-December Fall/Winter Internship):

  • Assist the Development Team with the coordination of sponsorship/in-kind donations and catering for special events
  • Coordinate daily food services for Heartland Film staff and oversee the organization of the filmmaker lounge
  • Assist the Development Team in the execution of all special events including prep, setup, and teardown
  • Assist Silver Screen Society members and VIPs with reserved seating and other needs
  • Assist the Development Team with year-end appeals and the holiday fundraiser

Volunteer Services Intern - Open for Fall 2017

1 Fall Internship Position Available

Reports to: Volunteer Manager / Director of Operations

Description: The Volunteer Services Intern is responsible for assisting the Volunteer Manager with the scheduling of Heartland Film Festival volunteer, shift chair and theater chair shifts and responsibilities for the 2017 Heartland Film Festival. Additionally, the Volunteer Services Intern will assist the Volunteer Manager with organizing and coordinating schedules, activities, and initiatives within various volunteer committees.

  • Fall internship: Early August – Early November | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in marketing, communications, media studies, film, nonprofit management or related field
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and friendly customer service
  • Desire to learn more about what it takes to put on a film festival
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Passion and excitement for the 2017 Heartland Film Festival


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Volunteer Manager in creating shift schedules for the 2017 Festival
  • Assist the Volunteer Manager in the management and training of Heartland Film volunteers before and during the Heartland Film Festival
  • Occasionally assist members of the Heartland Film staff with administrative tasks when Festival Office volunteers are unable to make a shift
  • Assist various volunteer committees – Welcome Bag Committee, Festival Office Volunteers, Marketing Street Team, Hospitality Committee, etc. – with various initiatives and projects associated with the 2017 Heartland Film Festival

Festival Events Intern - Open for Fall 2017

1-2 Fall Internship Positions Available

Reports to: Festival Event Coordinator / Operations Manager / Director of Operations

Description: The Festival Events Interns are responsible for assisting the Operations Team with putting on a successful 2017 Heartland Film Festival. Festival Interns will help with running special events and Festival prep/teardown.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Fall internship: Early August – Early November | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in film, nonprofit management, event planning, business or related field
  • Desire to learn more about planning, special events and the film festival atmosphere
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and friendly customer service
  • Must be 21 years in age; able to serve alcohol at events (we can pay for your alcohol serving license if you’re not already certified)
  • Quick on your feet with effective problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car during the Festival
  • Able to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive; basic math skills


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Gather and deliver materials to the theaters and venues pre-Festival
  • Setup and teardown of Heartland Film Festival special events (primarily at the Premiere Pavilion)
  • Assist the Pavilion Manager with running events, prep/teardown in the Premiere Pavilion
  • Set-up red carpet, lights and step-and-repeats for red carpet premieres and parties
  • Bar tend at special events when needed

Hospitality & Concierge Services Intern - Open for Fall 2017

Reports to: Film Programming Manager / Concierge Services Coordinator / Director of Operations

Description: The Hospitality & Concierge Services Intern is responsible for assisting the Film Programming Team with filmmaker accommodations and the Concierge Team with ticket needs, scheduling needs, and VIP accommodations. This will include working during the 2017 Heartland Film Festival (Oct. 12-22, 2017) to accomplish the implementation of what is planned.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Fall internship: Early September – Early November | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in film, nonprofit management, hospitality, business or related field
  • Desire to learn more about planning, customer service and the film festival atmosphere
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and friendly customer service
  • Quick on your feet with effective problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car during the Festival
  • Able to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive; basic math skills


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Film Programming Manager with arranging travel for filmmakers and guests including airfare, lodging, and transportation
  • Drive guests to airport and theater venues
  • Help work the Hospitality Suite
  • Assist in contacting patrons to secure ticket needs
  • Track benefits and tickets issued to varying groups of attendees
  • Work the Festival to assist as needed

Multimedia Archives Intern - Open for Winter 2017-2018

1 Winter Internship Position Available

Reports to: Marketing Manager / Director of Film Programming & Marketing

Description: The Multimedia Archives Intern is responsible for assisting the Film Programming/Marketing Team with the collection and organization of Heartland Film’s extensive film programming, data, marketing, and photo archives. This position will primarily assist the Marketing Manager with the organization of Heartland Film’s movie database and scanning old marketing materials and/or photographs.

Dates/Schedule:

  • Winter internship: Late November – Early March | 12-20 hours/week


Skills/Requirements:

  • Majoring in library sciences, archival science, history, film/media studies, or related field
  • Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
  • Strong communication, organization and data-entry skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Drive; ability to learn new software
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is desirable, but not required
  • Experience with WordPress and some knowledge of HTML/CSS is desirable, but not required


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Marketing Manager with gathering, organizing and uploading data to the Heartland Film movie database
  • Assist the Marketing Manager with organizing and scanning past Heartland Film Festival marketing materials, video footage, and photographs
  • Occasionally assist the Film Programming Manager in collecting film research

About the Program

Our interns will serve a crucial role in putting on the 2017 Heartland Film Festival (Oct. 12-22, 2017) as well as our year-round Heartland Film Roadshow events. At Heartland Film, we offer a fun and informative work environment where students can gain valuable experience within the nonprofit & entertainment industries. During the 11-day Heartland Film Festival students will be able to network with filmmakers and industry professionals from all over the world.

Our internship positions are ideal for students currently enrolled at an accredited college/university who are looking to obtain school credit. Some positions are also available as unpaid internships. Our summer internships will run from early May – early August; our fall internships will run from early August – early November (with some exceptions depending on the position). Interns are expected to work a schedule of 12-20 hours per week with the potential to work more hours during the 2017 Heartland Film Festival (which occurs during the fall internship session from Oct. 12-22, 2017).
